Hello! I’m Howard Cheng, the eye and spirit behind “Stills Unbound,” a moniker that embodies my passion for capturing moments as free and boundless as the sun. As a freelance photojournalist, my lens has been at the heart of social movements and solemn historical events, including the honour of documenting events following Queen Elizabeth II’s passing in 2022, such as The Queen’s lying-in-state in Westminster Hall. These pivotal experiences have deepened my appreciation for storytelling through the viewfinder, steering me towards a new horizon of storytelling that’s entirely my own.
Although it is both an honour and a privilege to help tell the important stories behind social movements and to be part of documenting historical once-in-a-lifetime events, photography for me is not just a powerful medium to document these things; it’s also a bridge connecting diverse cultures and sharing their stories with the world. I am driven by a profound belief in the importance of understanding and appreciating the myriad cultures that shape our global community. This perspective fuels my desire to produce more travel-related content, aiming to capture and convey the essence of different places, peoples, and cultures.
My vision for photography is to immerse viewers in the moment, offering them a point-of-view experience that’s intimate and engaging. To truly put my viewers into the scene, I often avoid the grandiosity of large prints, preferring instead to invite my audience to lean in closer, to immerse themselves in the scene, to feel the emotion, and to become part of the story.
I welcome you all to join me on this journey as we explore new territories and narratives through the lens of my camera and my stills, unbound from any expectations. Let us discover together the stories that lie waiting, beyond the confines of the mundane, into the vast and vibrant world.
